From The Can

Metallic Plaster is a water base pre-colored plaster, containing several mica, glass and pearlescent particles, which impart a beautiful shimmering finish when applied in layers of the same color or multiple colors. It has excellent open time during application, dries to an extremely durable finish and can be over glazed with ease. Metallic Plaster can be used to create a wide variety of decorative finishes by using various tools and techniques. View application videos and get inspired at modernmasters.com

SURFACE PREPARATION:

The surface should be free of imperfections, sealed with an acrylic primer-sealer and have a low sheen. We recommend Benjamin Moore Fresh Start High Hiding Primer. Allow the primed surface to dry completely, preferably overnight. The primed surface must be entirely free of dust, dirt, oil, grease, and other contaminants. Use a NIOSH approved respirator when sanding and when working with old, loose paint particles. Provide adequate ventilation.

BASIC APPLICATION:

Stir the product thoroughly before use, do not shake.

Basecoat:

Basecoat surface tinted to a similar color as final finish.

First coat:

Roll on first coat using 3/8th or 1/2 inch nap roller. This technique will produce peaks that should be “knocked down” by smoothing lightly with a trowel while plaster is still wet.

Second and Third coats:

A skim coat of the same color Metallic Plaster is applied using a trowel. Hold trowel at a 60o angle and force the skim coat into the “valleys” of texture.

CLEAN UP:

Clean trowels, rollers, brushes, etc. with soap and warm water immediately after use. Promptly wipe up spills and splatters with a damp cloth. Do not pour unused contents down the drain. Do not reuse containers and properly dispose of empty containers.

HANDLING & STORAGE:

Tightly close container when not in use. Store the product in a cool dry place, away from direct sunlight. If contents freeze, allow thawing at room temperature. Stir well before use. Disposal: Dispose of unused or unwanted product in accordance with local laws regulating water base coatings.

HEALTH & SAFETY:

Use in a well- ventilated area. Avoid contact with eyes. Wash hands thoroughly with soap and warm water after use. Do not take internally. When spraying or sanding, use a properly-fitting, NIOSH approved respirator per the manufacturer’s instructions.

KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN WARNING! If you scrape, sand, or remove old paint, you may release lead dust. LEAD IS TOXIC. EXPOSURE TO LEAD DUST CAN CAUSE SERIOUS ILLNESS, SUCH AS BRAIN DAMAGE, ESPECIALLY IN CHILDREN. PREGNANT WOMEN SHOULD ALSO AVOID EXPOSURE. Wear a NIOSH- approved respirator to control lead exposure. Clean up carefully with a HEPA vacuum and a wet mop. Before you start, find out how to protect yourself and your family by contacting the National Lead Information Hotline at 1-800-424-LEAD or log on to www.epa.gov/lead.
