Modern Masters Dead Flat Varnish is a premium quality, 100% acrylic, non- yellowing, water base clear finish coat formulated to have the optimum level of clarity with the least amount of sheen. Dead Flat Varnish will remove undesirable variations in sheen created by using semi-gloss base coats with Decorative Glazes and allows the finish to maintain that aged effect. It is water resistant and abrasion resistant. Not recommended for use over Metallic Paint CollectionTM or Metal Effects® oxidized finishes.

SURFACE PREPARATION

The underlying faux finish or decorative painted surface must be fully cured prior to application (approx. 24 hours). If applying over porous surfaces, (such as stone and plaster finishes) dilute varnish 10% with water and apply in thin coats until the surface is sealed.

Not intended for use over oil base finishes.

APPLICATION

Dead Flat Varnish can be applied by brush, roller or spray equipment. Do not apply when air and surface temperatures are below 50°F (10°C) or high humidity conditions exist. Optimal application conditions are 60°F-80°F (16°C- 27°C) and 30%-60% relative humidity. For most applications thinning is unnecessary. Stir thoroughly before use. Do not shake.

Brushing:

Use a high-quality synthetic bristle brush. Rolling: Use a high-quality, soft short-nap roller.

Spraying:

Use a HVLP gun, conventional cup gun or airless spray system. If thinning is necessary, add up to 10% (12 fl. oz./355 ml) of water per gallon/3.78 L of Dead Flat Varnish. For exterior surfaces, use Exterior Dead Flat Varnish.

CLEAN UP:

Clean tools, brushes and equipment with warm, soapy water immediately after use. Promptly wipe up spills and splatters with a damp cloth.

HANDLING & STORAGE:

When not in use, close container tightly and store at room temperature. Protect from freezing and extreme heat. If contents freeze, allow thawing at room temperature. Do not reuse container and dispose of unused or unwanted product in accordance with local laws regulating water base coatings.

HEALTH & SAFETY:

Use in a well ventilated area. Avoid contact with eyes. Wash hands thoroughly with soap and warm water after use. Do not take internally. When spraying or sanding, use a properly fitting (NIOSH approved) respirator per the manufacturer’s instructions.
